LIVING INK
The Story Behind The Art
The goal of Living Ink is to capture the essence of the story behind the art of Tattoos which people have chosen to wear. Using several different artistic techniques to tell their story, we can get a glimpse into their life and get a better understanding of who they are as an individual.
At the same time, developing a universal connection that inspires and unites us all.
Tattoos already carry deeply personal stories and symbolism. Animating them — giving them subtle motion or transformations — is a brilliant way to unlock a kind of visual poetry, letting viewers see what the tattoo feels like to the person wearing it, beyond what it literally depicts. It’s a strong artistic concept, especially paired with music and a narrative voice.

The tattoo will move just enough to surprise and enchant, without overshadowing the person’s story. Rotoscoping and animation can assist in creating and exploring a world that expresses the subjects emotional connection to the story and the desire to preserve that moment in time.
Seeing as each persons story is different, the elements of the tattoo and the story together will dictate which artistic techniques are needed to complete the vision. As an example this might include the use of Animation, Rotoscoping, Pinhole Photography, Still film photography, Super 8 filming, Digital Photography, Polaroids, illustrations, Stop motion animation and other techniques like, Portraits using Water Color and Ink on Polyester.
Living Ink is the exploration of our memories and our emotions, Our thoughts, ideas and sometimes the Ink is just for fun.
Living Ink is the story of community.
It’s the story of our children, our friends and neighbors and the strangers that pass us in the street. The stories exist all around us. Living Ink will bring those stories to life for the world to experience.
